A workshop on climate change and its impact on the Al-Hawizeh/Al Adhim Marshes was organized by the Engineering Consulting Office of the College of Engineering at Thi Qar University, as part of the Al-Hawizeh Marshes/Al Adhim Cooperative Assessment and Management Project, at the Cormick Hotel in Maysan Governorate on Wednesday, December 24, 2025. The workshop included sessions and lectures by professors, academics, and experts on climate change and the serious external challenges facing the Hawizeh Marshes, a World Heritage Site. These challenges include reduced water releases from neighboring countries, drought, and internal factors such as overfishing, resource scarcity, and a lack of biodiversity, especially during the summer. Over four sessions, specialists discussed the following topics: the current state of water resources and marshes in Iraq; the current environmental situation of the Hawizeh Marshes; water policy and its impact on the marshes; and integrated water management and marsh protection.
The workshop witnessed an exchange of discussions and opinions to develop recommendations that contribute to finding solutions and addressing the issues. Certificates of appreciation were also distributed to the participants and contributors who helped make the workshop a success.
